Charging AGM Batteries

AGM charging: use AGM mode, correct voltage limits, and why overcharging is harmful.

Charging AGM batteries

AGM batteries need a charger with an AGM mode or profile. The absorption voltage is typically 14.4V–14.8V for 12V; float is around 13.2V–13.8V. Using a standard lead-acid profile can undercharge or overcharge the battery and shorten its life. Most UK smart chargers now include AGM; select it before charging.

Do not use a high-rate charger beyond the battery’s specified maximum (often in the handbook). Leave the charger connected until it indicates full or maintain. AGM is common in Start/Stop vehicles; correct charging helps avoid premature failure and system warnings.
