Jump Starter Chargers
Portable jump starters and booster packs for emergency starts. Not a replacement for proper charging.
Jump starters vs battery chargers
Portable jump starters (booster packs) deliver a short, high current to crank the engine when the battery is flat. They do not recharge the vehicle battery; they bypass it for one start. After a jump start, the alternator will begin to recharge the battery only if the engine is run for a reasonable time (often 20–30 minutes or more). For a battery that has been flat for a long time or is weak, that may not be enough, and the battery can go flat again once the engine is off.
So: use a jump starter to get moving in an emergency, then either take a longer drive to allow the alternator to charge the battery or connect a proper smart charger at home to fully recharge and condition it. In cold UK weather, a weak battery may struggle to hold charge; if the battery keeps going flat, have it tested and consider replacement—see our Battery Fitment Finder and diagnostics section.
- Jump starters get you started; they do not charge the battery.
- After a jump, drive for 20–30+ minutes or use a smart charger to recharge properly.
- Repeated flat batteries often indicate a failing battery or parasitic drain—diagnose before relying on jump starts.
