Charging use case

Emergency Recovery

When your battery is flat, jump starters get you going; then use a smart charger to properly recharge.

After a flat battery: recharge properly

If your battery has gone flat, a jump start or booster pack will get the engine running, but it does not recharge the battery. The alternator will begin to put charge back in, but after a long period flat—or in cold weather—a short drive may not be enough. The battery can go flat again the next time you try to start.

The right approach is to drive for at least 20–30 minutes to allow some recharge, then connect a smart charger at home and leave it until the charger shows full. If the battery keeps going flat after that, it may be failing or there may be a parasitic drain; use our diagnostics and Battery Fitment Finder to decide whether to replace the battery.
