Charging Start/Stop (AGM/EFB) batteries
Start/Stop systems place high demands on the battery: frequent engine restarts, regenerative braking, and often higher electrical loads. Vehicles are fitted with AGM or EFB batteries, which tolerate deeper cycling and higher charge rates than standard lead-acid—but only if the charger uses the correct profile. A charger that only has a 'standard' or 'lead-acid' mode can undercharge or overcharge an AGM/EFB battery, reducing its life or triggering BMS faults.
When charging at home, always use a smart charger with a dedicated AGM (and EFB if your car uses EFB) mode. Leave it connected until the charger indicates 'full' or 'maintain'. In the UK, many no-start or Start/Stop-disabled issues are due to a weak or poorly charged battery; proper charging often restores normal operation.
