Chargers for Leisure Batteries
Leisure and deep-cycle batteries need chargers suited to deep-cycle charging profiles.
Charging leisure and deep-cycle batteries
Leisure batteries (deep-cycle) are designed for sustained discharge and repeated cycling in caravans, motorhomes, and auxiliary setups. They require a charger that follows a deep-cycle or leisure profile—often a longer absorption phase and a float voltage suited to deep-cycle chemistry. A standard car charger may undercharge or overcharge if used for long periods.
When buying a charger for a leisure battery, choose one that states leisure or deep-cycle support. On-board caravan and motorhome chargers are usually already set up for this; standalone chargers must match. In the UK, 12V leisure systems are standard; ensure voltage (12V/24V) matches your system.
