Chargers for deep-cycle and leisure batteries in caravans, motorhomes, and boats.
Charging leisure and deep-cycle batteries
Leisure batteries (used in caravans, motorhomes, and some dual-battery setups) are designed for deep discharge and repeated cycling. They need a charger that follows a deep-cycle or leisure profile: higher absorption voltage and a proper float stage. Standard car chargers are often tuned for starter batteries and may undercharge or overcharge a leisure battery if left connected for long periods.
Many UK caravans and motorhomes have an on-board charger that runs from mains hook-up; when off-grid, solar or a separate leisure battery charger is used. If you are buying a standalone charger for a leisure or deep-cycle battery, choose one that explicitly supports that type and matches your system voltage (12V or 24V).
