Charging use case

Classic Cars

Older vehicles often have standard lead-acid batteries. Trickle or smart chargers with correct voltage prevent overcharging.

Charging classic and older vehicles

Classic cars usually have a standard 12V lead-acid battery (often 6V on very old vehicles). The charging system may be less sophisticated than on modern cars, so overcharging from a cheap or unregulated charger can boil the electrolyte and damage the battery and wiring. A smart charger with a standard lead-acid mode, or a low-amp trickle/maintainer with float, is the safest choice.

Many classics are used only in summer or on dry days and sit for long periods. A maintainer left connected in the garage will keep the battery ready and reduce sulphation. If the car is 6V, you must use a 6V charger—never connect a 12V charger to a 6V battery.
